If you're looking to improve your band and orchestral percussion, further your classical chops as well as jazz or rock, prepare for solo competitions and college auditions, advance your hand-percussion skills, sight-reading, learning music for the first time or just looking to have some fun, he teaches lessons to students of all ages and levels.
Ben Paysen is a Competition Winner, Concerto Soloist, Recording artist and has performed in numerous festivals across the country.
In 2013, he won the Concerto Competition as a DMA candidate at the Mason Gross School of Music. Most recently, Ben appears on a "Portrait of Augusta Read Thomas" with the New Haven Symphony as principal percussionist, a Nimbus Alliance Recording. He is also featured on a 2009 Albany Records recording "A tribute to Chou Wen Chung" |
Teaching Experience:
I have taught on Co-Adjunct Faculty in the music theory department and as a lecturer at Rutgers University. Serving on Faculty at the Wellesley Composer’s Conference I coached compositional techniques performed and recorded new music in for several years. I have been a guest coach and clinician at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz and Mills College. I was resident coach and percussion ensemble director at the El Camino Youth Symphony. I have also coached the California Youth Symphony percussion section ensemble. I was the Artist-in-Residence at the San Francisco School of the Arts High school I was a percussion instructor for the OPUS- San Francisco Symphony youth pilot program throughout the SF unified school district. I have taught group and private music instruction for over 20 years |
